the origin of the name of the street GOEZEPUTSTRAAT:


It is around 1400 that the name "Ten Goesepitte" is seen for the first time and it was a name given to a location which meant "lower piece of land" but the real signification still remains to be established. In 1556 we first see the streetname "Goesepitstrate" which later became Goezeputstraat. Although in the 19th century the streetname was translated into "rue du Puit d’Oies" it is clear that the word "goeze" has nothing to do with geese.
